English horary and judicial astrology
1602 – 1681
The foremost English astrologer of the 17th century, William Lilly published Christian Astrology (1647), the first major astrological treatise written in English rather than Latin, making the art accessible to a broad audience. A practitioner of horary astrology and political prophecy, he was reportedly investigated after his almanac appeared to predict the Great Fire of London fourteen years before it occurred.
