1644 – 1715
English astrologer and almanac writer, John Partridge began his career as a shoemaker before taking up astrology professionally after publishing Mikropanastron (1679). He became a leading figure in the movement to reform astrology by returning to classical Ptolemaic methods. He is also famous as the subject of Jonathan Swift's satirical Bickerstaff Papers (1708–1709), in which Swift fictitiously announced Partridge's death. Partridge published popular annual almanacs for decades.
