Neoplatonism, Platonic mysticism, Paganism

Select Works of Plotinus

AdvancedPrimary Sourcepartial

Thomas Taylor's 1817 English translation of selected treatises from the Enneads of Plotinus, the first major English rendering of this foundational Neoplatonic text. Taylor presents Plotinus's systematic philosophy of emanation — from the transcendent One, through Intellect (Nous) and World-Soul, down to matter — alongside his own scholarly introductions and notes. As the "English Pagan," Taylor was the primary conduit of Platonic and Neoplatonic thought to the English-speaking Romantic movement. Essential companion to the complete Enneads, particularly valuable for Taylor's contextual commentary linking Plotinus to the wider Platonic tradition.
