New Thought and practical occultism

William Walker Atkinson

1862 – 1932

William Walker Atkinson was an American attorney, merchant, publisher, and extraordinarily prolific occult author who became one of the most influential figures in the early New Thought movement, publishing under his own name and numerous pseudonyms including Yogi Ramacharaka, Swami Panchadasi, Theron Q. Dumont, and Magus Incognito. His output — estimated at over one hundred books — covered mental influence, thought vibration, Hermetic philosophy, Raja Yoga, clairvoyance, and the Kybalion (1908, co-authored under the name Three Initiates), which remains one of the most widely read modern presentations of Hermetic philosophy. Atkinson served as a popularizing bridge between Victorian occultism, Eastern philosophy, and the American New Thought tradition, reaching a mass audience that more academically oriented esoteric authors never could.
