William Seabrook

1884 – 1945

American journalist, occultist, and adventurer, William Seabrook traveled extensively and pursued firsthand experience of esoteric and magical traditions worldwide, including close contact with Aleister Crowley. His 1929 book The Magic Island, based on his immersion in Haitian Vodou, introduced the concept of the zombie to Western popular culture and shaped decades of occult and horror literature.
