Renaissance occult philosophy translation
Robert Turner was an English translator and astrologer active in the mid-seventeenth century who produced several key English translations of Renaissance occult philosophy, most notably his 1655 translation of the Fourth Book of Occult Philosophy (attributed to Cornelius Agrippa) and his 1657 edition of the Arbatel of Magic. His translations made foundational texts of the grimoire tradition and Hermetic philosophy accessible in English for the first time, directly shaping the reception of Renaissance magic in Restoration-era England and providing source material for the emerging English occult tradition.
