Roman poetry, mythological transformation narrative

Metamorphoses, Books VIII-XV

Intermediatevolume_2_of_2

Second portion of Ovid's epic poem Metamorphoses (Books VIII-XV) continuing the narrative of divine and human transformations. Covers heroic myths including Meleager and the Calydonian Boar, Theseus's adventures, Daedalus and Icarus, Medea, Perseus myths, and the Trojan War. Books VIII-XI focus on Trojan War origins and tragic myths; Books XII-XV complete the work with death of Achilles through transformation of Caesar into a god. Maintains Ovid's characteristic poetic treatment of metamorphosis as theme of impermanence and divine intervention in human affairs.
