Monarchy Or No Monarchy in England (1651) is William Lilly's controversial political prophecy work in which he presents nineteen "hieroglyphicks" — coded pictorial prophecies — depicting the future fate of England. Lilly claims to have foretold the execution of King Charles I and uses astrological charts and enigmatic imagery to predict events including the Great Plague and the Great Fire of London (fourteen years before it occurred in 1666). The work also includes commentary on older English, Latin, Saxon, Scottish, and Welsh prophecies concerning Britain's destiny, making it an extraordinary document at the intersection of astrology, political prophecy, and English history.
