Welsh folklore and fairy mythology

William Wirt Sikes was an American journalist appointed U.S. Consul at Cardiff, Wales in 1876. During his tenure he conducted field research into Welsh folk belief, producing British Goblins: Welsh Folk-Lore, Fairy Mythology, Legends and Traditions (1880), a foundational text of Celtic folklore scholarship that drew on oral accounts gathered directly from local informants.
