Early Western Buddhist scholarship
William Gemmell was a Scottish scholar based in Pollokshields, Glasgow, who in 1912 produced one of the first English translations of the Diamond Sutra (Chin-Kang-Ching), rendered from the Chinese text of Kumarajiva. His fully annotated edition drew on conversations with experts in Oriental philosophy and drew parallels between Buddhist Prajna-Paramita teaching and Western spiritual thought; no biographical dates have been found in any source.
