Louis Ginzberg

Louis Ginzberg (28 November 1873 – 11 November 1953) was a Lithuanian-born rabbi and Talmudic scholar who became professor of Talmud at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America from 1902 until his death. His monumental seven-volume Legends of the Jews (1909–1938) compiled and traced the sources of Jewish folklore, aggadah, and midrashic tradition relating to Scripture. A leading figure in Conservative Judaism, he also contributed extensively to The Jewish Encyclopedia.
