1812 – 1895
Lady Charlotte Guest was an English aristocrat and linguist fluent in seven languages who produced the first modern English translation of the Mabinogion, the foundational corpus of Welsh mythology and Arthurian legend, published in seven volumes between 1838 and 1845. Her edition established the Mabinogion as a major literary text of European significance and remains a landmark of Celtic scholarship.
