Theosophy and esoteric spirituality
1847 – 1933
Annie Besant was a British-born Theosophist, social reformer, and the second President of the Theosophical Society, serving from 1907 until her death in 1933. A close associate of Helena Blavatsky's successor network, she promoted esoteric teachings on clairvoyance, karma, and the hidden constitution of humanity, co-authoring works on thought-forms and occult chemistry with Charles Leadbeater. Her presidency transformed the Theosophical Society into a global institution and extended Blavatsky's synthetic esotericism into the twentieth century.
